Holdin’s Mannikins [sic]

YYH-2 – This act duplicated its success of last week and introduced several new features. It is far and away the best marionette show that has ever been seen in this country, and interests not only the children but the grown people who manifested their appreciation at every performance by calling Holdin in front of the curtain. 17 minutes, full stage.

Horton & La Triska

Well-known clown and doll act, which, while it went very well, did not score the big hit I have it make in other cities. 15 Min. F.S. Can close in One.

Jack Horton & M’lle La Triska

C.D.F. Time 16. La Triska as a “mechanical doll” is very clever and could scarcely be improved upon. She won frequent bursts of applause. Horton carries her out to the audience fo [sic] “examination” and gets screams of laughter.

Horton & La Trinka

Man and woman in the “Clown and the Human Doll”. This a sort of a Phoroso act and the work of the human doll was very favorably received. The clown was satisfactory and the act seemed to make quite a favorable impression. Finished fairly strong. C.D.F. in 3, 17 minutes.

La Petit Cabaret

12 min. A very good manikin set and did very well as an opener. A lot of their opening staff is new and funny.

Maxin & Morris

In a “Mirthful Oddity.” Manikins – use the bodies of the dummies they impersonate but their heads are their own. Carry a cabinet. Received laughs thro act and a great laugh and hand at finish. 9 min. in one.

Holden’s Manikins

22 min, F.S., 2 shows. On at 8:04. This is a children’s feature. I doubt whether it would be so well received at any other than about Christmas time, but it quite won the house. The manikins performs various simple stunts, such as dancing, Punch and Judy comedy, etc. The finish of the act was a spectacular feature without moving figures, which did not run as smoothly as it should have done. However, the act will certainly please the little folks and it cannot be conceived how the wooden manikins can be manipulated so life-like. Holden got a good hand on his appearance after the act.

Josephine Newman and Company.

I hardly know why I should be the only one to take all the new acts.  This act played here  a year ago, and at that time it was very poor.  Chas. Fitzpatricks I believe sent the act down here more to break it in.  I don’t care to break those acts in unless I see them first.  This is a bad act, but I will let them finish out the week, and I think it will improve during the week. 13 minutes, full stage.
