Geo. Rolland & Co.

In “Fixing the Furnace.” Comedy sketch that approach very closely to vulgarity. Of course some people laugh at this smut. After Sunday matinee, the sketch was disinfected, and made presentable to decent people. It is a good laughing finish. OPEN NEXT WEEK.

Thomas A. Edison’s Talking Motion Pictures

14 minutes picture sheet in one. That this latest invention of Mr. Edison’s has the whole town by the ears was proven conclusively to-day, when we packed the house to the doors at both performances. Hundreds were turned away. The pictures worked perfectly, and created a tremendous applause. At the finish, a slide of Mr. Edison was thrown upon the screen, and it was greeted with thunderous applause.

Tom Nawn and Company

In “Pat and the Genie.” 25 minutes f.s. Special set. Nawn is doing his old act this trip, but it is so long since it has been seen here that it was apparently new to the majority of our audiences. Kept the audience laughing every minute he was on stage. Close strong.

Van Hoven

16 min in one. This act commenced rather slowly, but Van Hoven got the crowd with him in a minute or two when they got wise to his particular brand of humor. Received a good hand for his tricks and patter, and closed very strong after the ludicrous work with the two street gamins. Held this spot in good shape.

Edison Talking Picture

15 min. There is no doubt that the jammed house today was largely owing to the Kinetophone as there was a look of expectancy on every face and many of the crowd seemed impatient of the preceding acts. It is likewise true that the audience thoroughly enjoyed it and were satisfied that the Kinetophone is all that it has been heralded to be. Every one of the Talking Pictures received a big hand, and there was strong applause at the finish. One of the greatest contributions to vaudeville and certainly should serve to pack the house every performance.

Alpine Troupe

9 min, F.S. This is a very showy act with three pretty girls and two men on the double wire. Their work is swift and sure and got considerable applause. The costuming is very fetching and altogether the act makes an excellent opener.

Ethel Barrymore & Co.

There is no need to dwell upon Miss Barrymore’s sketch or her ability. I just what [sic] to mention that we have the biggest advance sale ever in the history of vaudeville in Providence and thousands of people are clamoring for seats, who will not be able to get them. With Miss Tanguay – the opposition up the street – there were on Saturday and this morning plenty of seats to be had and it didn’t look as if she was going to do any business to talk about, in spite of tremendous billing. Our advertising is a little more than ordinary. My only fear is that we will turn away so many people that in their desire to go somewhere, and nothing else of consequence in town, we are going to help Miss Tanguay’s business, Miss Barrymore’s act was received most cordially. 27 min. F.S. At 7 o’clock tonight there were plenty of seats available in all parts of the house for the Tanguay show tonight – we are sold out for the week.

Felix & Caire

Their old act, which is practically the same as they have been doing for a number of years, containing one or two new imitations. In the old days when they were looked upon as children, and Felix was particularly small, the act had value; now that they have grown to young men and young woman, their work is not so effective; besides which, Felix has a particularly offensive personality. The first part of the act dragged and they closed only fairly well. 15. Open F.S. Close about 3 min in one.

Robt. Emmett Keane

A very clean-cut classy young fellow, who tells a number of stories in English dialect and sings a couple of songs of a similar nature, all wall rendered and well received. He concludes with a recitation that sent him off to a good hand. A far better act than I had been led to expect.  I am inclined to believe he will do much better in other cities than New York. Probably he hasn’t got quite enough ginger for the New York audiences. 15 min in one.

Morton & Glass

“My Lady of the Bungalow.” 16 min in one. Carry their own drop which makes a pretty act for their act. Miss Glass has a pleasing personality, sings well and her gown in very fetching. Morton dresses in the height of fashion and together they prepossess the audience. Their songs and patter as well as their dancing are very good and won constant applause. Made a strong close.
