Garden in 3, 13 minutes. A neat appearing local boy attempting the juggling of some of the best we have had here. Was somewhat nervous this afternoon and fell down on two or three tricks. His general work however, is lively, pleasing and acceptable, enabling him to close to good applause. 3 shows.
Drop in one, 14 minutes. A local boy and girl about 15 or 16, singing and dancing, opening in Chinese costumes, then to straight. A cute girl, possessor of a good and highly pleasing voice. They dance well, showing dancing school training and able to close to good applause. 3 shows.
2 shows, 22 min, full stage. Presenting for the first time here the comedy melodrama “Pals”, which has already been described by other houses. The first portion of it, which is quite humorous, was greeted with laughter all through, and the sensational fight at the finish provoked more enthusiasm than anything that has ever been done here. Eight curtain calls were insisted on.
2 shows, 19 mins. in 1. Irish dialect comedians, one working straight and the other a bit eccentric, presenting their duologue “Congressman at Large” which is tremendously witty. They had a lot of new material and it really deserved to go better than it did, but the audience was a peculiar one. Will go better the balance of the week, I am convinced.
[Magician, possibly “The Little Georgia Magnet”?] 2 shows, 25 mins. full stage. Created just as much interest as at any time last week. She had a lively committee on the stage, who subjected her to unusual tests, but she “made good”. She is unquestionably drawing business and is worthy all the salary she is receiving.
– 2 shows, 15 min. in 1. Manipulator of coins, cards, and small billiard balls. He is as clever as Nelson Downs or Thurston, but lacks the pleasing personality that distinguishes the performers named. Like all acts of this class, Mr. Leipzig’s work “made good”.
3 shows, 16 mins. in 1. Black and white face talking comedians, the fellow who blacks up being quite clever. It is an excellent 3-a-day set.
18 mins. C.D.F in 3, close in one. Comedy musical act; a good act, but hardly strong enough for their place on the bill, for there are some swift acts just ahead of them. Their finish in one with the cornets is strong, but they may have to go up the bill a bit.
– 24 mins. Special Drop. Man and Woman, in their new sketch “A Gallery Goddess.” Described from New York house last week. For this house the sketch is not nearly as good as “Hester’s Promise.” Didn’t get a hand at the finish of the sketch. Then they started in on another sketch with the same setting. The audience didn’t understand it and neither did we. Act was an awful fall-down. After a speech to the audience stating that the management was short of acts, he said he would deliver a recitation, and then he gave them something on the line of “The Face on the Barroom Floor.” He will change the finish some for to-night’s show.
12 mins. in one. Songs and talking. On the high notes Miss Shaw’s voice is very much off. She strikes a sour note occasionally, and that puts a damper on her work. She is attractive in appearance and dresses neatly, making changes of costume. Has some objectionable stuff in her character work that had to be cut out. Guess she has been playing museums.
