18 minutes. Open in one. Garden drop. Close f.s. Kitchen set. One of those ‘closed in one – change to dressing room’ sketches with two men, a la Flanagan & Edwards. One song. Has some bright lines, but as a whole the act drags. Went fairly well in this position.
On at 3:55, 8 minutes, full stage. Oh! That we could have him a second week. Novelties of this kind, that make people talk are extremely valuable to us. He will have the whole town asking ‘How does he do it?’ I agree with Mr. Lovenberg in his statement that the audiences pay no attention whatsoever to his patter, and if he dad the brightest material in the world it would be absolutely lost, for the people become so interested in his changes hat they don’t hear a word he is saying.
Assisted makes a very pleasing appearance making several changes of costume. They are all excellent dancers with fairly good voices. Although the act only runs twelve minutes the audience seemed to tire before they finished. They left the stage, however, with a fairly good hand. Twelve minutes in one.
YRR 2. Character change artist, and very clever at quick change work. Although the act is a passe in some respects, his horse racing scene with moving panorama at the finish appealed to the gallery gofs. A good act for an early place. 17 minutes, full stage.
ON at 7.03, 11 min, full stage; can close in 1, if necessary; 3 shows. A character change act that seems like a novelty, it has been so it has been so long since I have seen one like it. Their changes are really great, and if their voices were equal to their character work, they would be holding down 8.0 and 9.00 spots. As it is, their vocal work handicaps them.
Man who claims he is the oldest actor in Harness in America. Appears in full dress suit, changes to tramp and recites the face on the bar room floor. Quick change to Virginius recitation introducing young woman in Costume as Virginia. He is a splendid looking man with a magnificent voice, and looks more like fifty than eight-five years old. Both his readings got good applause, and the act is well worth the money. 17 minutes, full stage. Could close in one.
GGR 3. Character changer artist. He is a marvel at quick changes. Lacks finish, and has no personality, although an excellent act for the three-a-day section, where he is destined to remain. Full stage, 14 min.
YRR 2. Quick change artist. After seeing Henry Lee, this man’s work seems crude. He carries a lot of stuff, and presents four tableaux and a horse race scene, with moving panorama for the finish. He makes his changes very quickly, but the act lacks finish and seems very crude in spots. May go better tonight. Should be on before 2:30 and 8. 19 mins. Special set.
3 shows, 13 min. full stage. This man’s act is too well known to need any description by me. He is a wonder in quick change work, but it lacks finish and he is absolutely without personality. Hence, he will never get out of the 3 show section in the better class of houses.
The Transfigurator. Fulgora’s changes are done in a remarkably quick time and get considerable applause but I do not think his characters are as well selected as they were last year. He carries considerable stage setting, works in full stage, time of act 22 minutes.
