Miyake is a jiu jitsu martial artist that takes on challengers from the audience, he faced a Greco-Roman wrestler in this particular performance, the Greek Demon.
Miyake's announcer states that Miyake will meet all challengers and throw them within seven minutes, should Miyake fail he would become a philanthropist and give away his money.
Excitement was high.
Miyake is a good attraction, through he should be placed in neighborhoods carefully selected. It is not pretty the way it is done, through the real Jiu Jitsu wresling is. Perhaps though if the style was followed more closely the interest in the money end would not be there. Any act that can make an audience yell is approved, and this one did at Hammerstein's Monday night. But it is more suitable to a burlesque company than a vaudeville house with a family trade.
