"One of the most mystifying things seen in Boston in a long while is the Flying Piano, which Mr Keith has imported from Europe. This piano, of the grand variety and painted pure white, is first seen perhaps 40 feet above the stage. Playing it--apparently sitting on air--is Volant, whose act it is, and standing on top of the piano is a woman, who sings as the instrument slowly descends to the stage. There it remains only a short time, slowly ascending to a height of about 15 feet, where it swings back and forth the entire width of the stage, and then whirls about, faster and faster, with Volant playing all the while."
The audience was left "loudly applauding but puzzled" by the performance.
