"her act, The Bathing Girl, had been extensively exploited by a staff of energetic press agents, and all New York was anxious to get a glimpse of the pretty woman who dared appear on the stage garbed in the regulation bathing costume." "Several women who had witnessed the performance complained to the authorities and Miss Selbini was arrested." She responded: "It is true that I was arrested, some of the prudes seeming to think the bathing costume in which I appear in my act was a trifle too scant... I had enough material in my bathing suit to make two or more of some of those worn by my critics."
