Kiass and Bernie are two young men who play ragtime tunes on the violin and the accordion.
The boys are not accomplished enough on their respective instruments yet to play before a vaudeville crowd. They should also not assume that because violin and accordion acts are successful on their own that they would go well together. "...if you play ragtime, you must know how to play ragtime."
