Irving Berlin sang a number of brand new songs, written by himself. The first was a comedy lyric which readily found a home in Hammerstein's. "Don't Wait Until Your Father Comes Home" may be its title. This is followed by an Italian and Yiddish song, also "The Mysterious Rag," "Alexander" and Ephriam."
"Why, he's a song writer and he doesn't use a piano on the stage" was heard many times around Hammerstein's Monday afternoon, when the regulars started talking about the fellow who turned out "Alexander's Rag-Time Band."
Berlin is different; he has a dandy style in delivering a song. His pleasing personality assures him of success singing a few of the excellent numbers he has written.
