Houdini escaped from a narrow nailed box in which he had entered with tied hands and feet. In and hour and fourteen minutes, one of Houdini's longest acts, he escaped. Houdini went on record afterwards saying it had been more difficult than he expected. The act was long, and nothing could be seen by the audience as the box was curtained the entire time.
