Second came Chief Caupolican, "Indian baritone," whose voice was a bit raspy and not as pure as in former days. His chatter, designed for comedy, was rather ponderous and did not quite succeed in its intent. His rendering of "La Marseillaise" in French got him away for a surefire applause finish.
