Artie Mehlinger and George W. Meyer were the applause hit of the bill. You never witnessed a song composer act that wasn't. Technically, Mehlinger can't sing, but his voice has a peculiarly sympathetic quality that vaudeville audiences like. He sings all his numbers, even a ballad, with the same "shouting" method, backs up three steps, then comes forward in order to repeat this "business" throughout. Occasionally he caries these steps by a few "hops," but that's about all.
