“Well gowned and majestically slim as well as handsome, Amelia Summerville returned to vaudeville at the American Monday with two catchy songs of the lighter description, and a fairly humorous monolog on the Suffragette subject. The latter was away from the usual run, containing several good points, two or three not sinking very deep.”
“Alma,” as heard in the Weber “Alma” show, and “Who Were You With Tonight?,” performed earlier by Maude Raymond in “Girlies, left quite an impression but the performance order should be reversed. Between the two songs Summerville presented her monolog which could have been padded for more laughing points of the broad sort. “That it in any way relates to ‘Women’s Rights’ is a mark of demerit. The thing has been done brown from every angle, excepting the one selected by Miss Summerville, and the angle left for her does not contain sufficient room.” Miss Summerville also presented a “coon” rendition of “Mistah Johnson, Goodnight,” this should be dropped as the encore takes away from the remembering of dialogue, and hurts the effect of the act.
