Mr. Harrold was in good voice. Mr. Harrold is a good vaudeville card, his voice and his rep guarantee that, particularly his rep (otherwise known as "name" or reputation). But there have been other grand opera singers on the vaudeville stage, with a more pleasing repertoire to the vaudeville ear, who didn't travel far, because of the absence of that rep attachment.
