The character singer should be labeled the "Hero of the Bill" as she was slated to perform after Frank Keenan in "The Oath." The dramatic affair ended with Keenan mourning his dead son, kneeling with a Rosary in his hands. The orchestra switched from the mournful music to Little Grace Cameron's lively tune.
The opening number is a chorus girl's experience told in lyrics. The number allowed Cameron the opportunity to test her vocal abilities. This was followed by a French selection. Next was a kid song, "I'm An Orphan Child From Reno," or something along those lines. Only one verse was sung. She also performed "Help, Help. Help," "Heaven Will Protect a Working Girl," and a suffragette number, "If Adam Had Never Been Introduced to Eve."
Naturally the first two songs went slowly, but by the finish of her act, Miss Cameron had the audience forgetting Keenan's act.
The French number was well done but does not belong in Miss Cameron's repertoire. Miss Cameron is probably only one in a hundred who could hold this spot in the bill. The result makes her a candidate for any bill, anywhere, anytime.
