17 min. in 1, 2 shows. On at 9:55. To say that May Irwin was a hit is putting it very mildly. She got an immense advance hand, and for seventeen minutes gave the audience all they had been wishing for, and then some. Sang her whole repertoire of songs, and was compelled to give an encore, ‘The New Bully.’ The song, ‘I’m Afraid to Come Home in the Dark’ will catch the town before the week is half out. All the hotel orchestras are playing it, helping to popularize it. From May Irwin’s success to-day there is not the slightest doubt of popularity with Philadelphians. Compared with Lloyd as a money-bringer she is sure to loom up head and shoulders stronger. We are fortunate to have her two weeks, for I believe she will draw better next week than this.
