The minstrels are most likely a stock organization at the house.
The five men employed make a fairly good singing combination but lack skills in their dancing abilities. Moreover, the comedy is some of the old minstrel stuff that has been done too often to retain any real merit. Minstrels seem to be the synonym for old jokes.
