The scene takes place in the saloon of a steamer. With Miss Taylor and Mr. Grattan as a married couple each believing the other wants to do away with them for insurance money.
The set is the sitting room of a colonial house just after the close of the Civil War.
Most of the story is told through flashback, as one soldier sacrifices his right arm for his fiancee.
They are “a mixed colored two-act” with the girl in a light evening dress and the man in a sack suit.
Miss Flynn and Margaret Arnold are on either end of the girls, in blackface, while the other seven are in whiteface. Their costume changes went from gowns to Hula costumes.
The first card reads “La Giaconda”, and implies a legitimate musical act. The second card reads “Unnecessary piano solo”, followed by “Terrible imitations”, “Uncalled for encore”, “Horrible singing”, and “Bunk speech”.
The set is a woodland scene with a large shoe in the center.
There are four girls around the fire, and two owls. When the owls blink blue, everything is serene, but when they blink red, someone has lied.
