The villain (Desperate Desmond) has a wicked smile and wears patent leather shoes with pearl grey uppers. He offers to lift an Italian flower girl (Miss Ellenbeck) out of poverty if she would love him. She refuses him. Her husband Pietro, low in spirit after losing his job, believes she would be better off with Desmond, only to break the deal at the last second.
