An opening film shows Zylette as a doll, being sold by the inventor. She appears on the stage and does some work “as the doll” before changing into a succession of national types for a dance: German, Russian, and Spanish costumes before a transforming backdrop.
The stage is set with two houses side by side: one a preacher’s, flying the confederate flag. The other a northerner’s flying the American flag.
Two horses are used for the act, in which May and her brother take several turns somersaulting on their backs.
May’s left knee was bandaged on stage, likely from practice. As such she didn’t do her famed double somersault.
The riders carry small sticks to navigate and throw the ball, while guiding the bicycle with the other hand.
