17 minutes in two. Special drop. A very neat man and woman act, with good comedy, several original songs, and clever dancing. Scene is laid in a hotel corridor at night, and adds just a touch of novelty to the act. Got a number of laughs and closed well.
15 minutes in one. Olio. Songs, talk, piano and dancing. A very good act of its kind. In fact, too good for this position on the bill. Went big at both performances to-day.
19 min F.S. This is a corking good playlet, admirably presented and holds the interest from start to finish. There is no end of surprising turns until the audience is quite bewildered between the three Detectives Keen to know which are the crooks and who is the right man. Every part is played with strength and directness and it must be considered one of the best acts if its class. A smashing good close.
15 min F.S. This act makes a fine opener. It has been some time since we have had a shooting act and perhaps that accounted for more than ordinary applause but each one of the feats was cleverly done. Some new stunts never seen here before. Both make a fine appearance and the man has a pleasing line of talk. Could hold a good spot on any bill. Closed very well.
Made a very good closing feature for the show, because of the spectacular side of the act, the audience waiting, being attracted by the scenery and make-up of the men as crocodiles, and having waited they were well repaid by some very clever contortion work by the two men. 10 min F.S.
This act didn’t appear to as good advantage as it did when I saw it in New York; just why, I don’t know. I suppose they are doing the same work, but the construction of our house brings the audience somewhat nearer the stage and Miss Connolly didn’t appear to such good advantage. Her songs got over fairly well; the bigger hit being made by Mr. Wenrich’s medley of his successes and by the singing of the boy at the finish. 18 min. in one.
I was a little bit disappointed in this act, I don’t believe it shows much merit in the training, but there is a lot of comedy by the monkeys running around the stage, chasing the darky and getting a lot of laughs in that way; a good act for the children, but I wouldn’t want to say anything much stronger than that for it. 16 min F.S.
DeHaven, being of the old team of DeHaven & Sydney working with a young of attractive personality; they do some good dancing, fair singing and pleasing comedy. To my mind the act is considerably better than the old DEHAVEN & SYDNEY act. Would easily be satisfactory in No. 2 spot anywhere. 12 min in one.
In “A College Town.” Cast includes Miss Tempest, two principals an eight chorus men. The plot is a negligible quantity, but the songs are very good, the dancing is artistic and well done, the special scenery, showing a view of the Yale campus, is handsome, and all in all, we would call it a good act. By Graham Moffatt’s Scottish Players. This sketch has merit and novelty, the Scotch accent of the players is exceptionally good and the act filled this position on the bill quite acceptably. F.S.
