Lean-Holbrook and Co.

This musical comedy entitled “This Is the Spot” was twenty-seven minutes long on the main stage. The sketch stars Cecil Lean and Florence Holbrook as Mr. Henshaw and Miss Farnsworth, respectively. Both are leading players in competing film companies. The setting is a park in full bloom. Each appears with a camera man and begins to pose in the park. Lean does a funny bit about a cowboy committing suicide. Holbrook sings first and gets it over through a catchy chorus. Lean then sings with a good voice. They change costumes several times and appear in evening clothes for a final duet.

Corelli and Gillette

This comedic acrobat act is eleven minutes long. Corelli is the straight acrobat. Gillette is an excellent monologist who is also an acrobat. The talk becomes a larger part of the act than the actual acrobatics, but it is full of laughs.

Julius Steger and Co.

This sketch entitled “Justice” was seventeen minutes long. “Justice” stars Julius Steger as a prisoner who has served nineteen years of a life sentence for murder. The evidence is revealed to have been circumstantial and the prisoner is pardoned for good behaviour. He initially turns down the pardon until he is convinced to leave by his mother.

Four Elles

The act was eleven minutes long on the full stage. The Elles list their dances as “Imitation Skating on Ice”, “Brazilian Dance”, “Acrobatic Dance”, and “Pantomimic Dance”. They open with the imitation skating number, which is the best of the four. The rest are mere dances.

Moss and Frye

The act was fifteen minutes long. This comedy team has an eccentric and a straight. The straight does his job well and makes the comedian very funny. The act is modeled on “the old Williams and Walker sidewalk conversation turn”.

Alfred Latell

The act was eight minutes long. Latell is a dog impersonator. His assistant Laura Hamilton sings two songs as he performs under a dog skin.

William Raynore and Co.

This “racing sketch” was twenty minutes long on the full stage. The sketch is a melodrama which includes a horse race to save an old home. The standard tropes of the villianess, the doping of horses, and the fateful race are all present. A film portrays the horse race onstage.

Four Mayos

This roller skating act was nine minutes long on the full stage. The group consists of three men and a woman from Europe. They do straight roller skating with some comedy built into the routine. The comedy gets grotesque when one of the men skates wearing a large inflatable suit.

Bertha Kalish and Co.

This sketch entitled “A Light From St. Agnes” was twenty eight minutes long on the full stage. The sketch, which was previously presented in Chicago, stars Bertha Kalish (who plays a haughty Frenchwoman) and John Harrington (who plays her drunken and violent lover). When her lover tries to steal the diamond cross from the hands of the deceased St. Agnes at the chapel across the road, Kalish’s character attempts to stop him to disastrous effect. He stabs her to death.

The Leonardos

This ring and trapeze act was seven minutes long on the full stage. The woman is suspended head down from the rings and trapeze. The man performs on both.
