“A Texas Wooing” 19 min., full stage. In spite of a slow, draggy opening and a melodramatic closing, this act has been making a hit all week. It is a novelty with the atmosphere of “Strong Heart”. Mr. Middleton and Miss Spellmeyer acquit themselves creditably and a genuine Indian adds something of realism. But nothing of dramatic value to this act.
7 min. in one. “The little girl with the big voice.” This young woman has a deep baritone, rich resonance and a very pleasing personality. She went well with our audience.
Formerly associated with Kellar, and making his second appearance here. Has an excellent act, and his feature “The Mysterious Cross” was not only mystifying, but will cause some talk. 23 min. F.S.
The original drummer girl with the Fadettes. Sings a little to start with, and plays various instruments commonly associated with the drummer of an orchestra. Has a fine presence and wardrobe, and fits snugly in this position. Good act. 10 min. in 2, with plush.
Headed by Hilarion and Rosalie Ceballas Assisted by Samuel Mint. 16 min. F.S. This is a novel act, although rather monotonous in tone on account of having only the black drop and white light. There are nine people in the cast. Six pretty girls who dance quite well, and the acrobatic dancers who get good applause for their work, which is well deserved. The audience seemed pleased and gave it a good hand. The skeleton dance at the finish is one of the weirdest effects imaginable.
In their Unique Creation “Astrology”. 17 min. in 1. A very original act in 1. Represents a house-top in the city at dawn. One man works straight and the other eccentric German comedian. The line of talk is amusing and kept the house in good tittering. The finish in which they avail themselves of a stereopticon, which shows pictures of Dave Warfield, Abe Lincoln, Bryn and Roosevelt on the drop, got a big “kind applause” hand as a close. This act makes good on account of its originality and humor.
Polite Colored Performers. 17 min. in one. This is one of the very best coon duos in vaudeville. It will go down the line for balance of the week. Their singing is excellent, and Giubes dancing and comedy is very funny. Would be the applause hit of any vaudeville bill. Closed with a big hand. Two curtain calls.
The Juggling Kids. 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. One works eccentric and the other straight. Work with table, rings, indian-clubs, bouncing balls, etc. Makes a very good opener. Received good applause for their work, although their comedy is a little shy. Closing feat got a good hand.
This man is one of the best female impersonators I have ever seen. He has the most wonderful voice for a man I have ever heard; his make-up is remarkable, and he received a hand on his appearance. He sang two songs in soprano voice, and his last song being sung in a Baritone voice, and I feel safe in saying he was the hit of the show. 12 minutes in one.
3/m 1/w. In the dramatic play “Compromised” by Louis Vance author of “The Brass Bowl.” I take pleasure in saying this is the greatest and most intense dramatic sketch presented here this season. It holds the audience spellbound, with a grand-stand climax. Mr. Hawtrey is excellent, the woman, very, very clever. Received big applause on the finish and with several curtain calls.
