Clayton Kennedy & Mattie Rooney

There has been no change in this act since last here, and it went fully as strong as Kennedy is a clever fellow notwithstanding his inclination to hold the stage too long.  The act is rough in spots and he should be instructed to cut out all reference to Red Raven splits, pushing an imaginary strand of hair inside his vest, the play on “May Match,” etc.  These crudities do not help his act, and may do more harm to the theater than we imagine.  24 min.  FS.  Can close in one.

6 American Dancers

I may be prejudiced in favor of this act, but if it is not the best wooden shoe dancing act ever produced in vaudeville I am afraid I am no judge.  The costumes are beautiful and the boys and girls make a very striking appearance.  One thing is certain, they got the most spontaneous and unanimous applause of any act on the bill, all through the act and the finish, too.  18 Min. in One, 2 shows.

The Song Birds

With William Burress.  A short Operatic Outburst.  35 Min. F.S.  This is a very novel and pretentious vaudeville feature.  The music is beautifully written.  The book contains no end of clever lines, and the characters of Hammerstein, Conriad, Melba, Caruse, and the rest are immense.  I could not conceive of a vaudeville travesty constructed on more popular lines.  The hits were applauded and the musical numbers got big hands.  The finishing chorus in which the Hammerstein forces sing in Italian Opera, while the Conreid Song Birds sing in German Opera, beautifully blended in orchestration, got a whirlwind hand with eight curtain calls at the finish and two encores.  This act is bound to draw big crowds this week, and tis previous appearance with the opposition (in a much inferior manner) has served to give it wider advertising.  Papers write in giving this act high praise.

Winsor Mc Cay

“Silas”  Offering his own Famous Original Drawings.  20 min. in 1.  Strong advance applause, showing that his work on the occasion of his previous visit was well appreciated.  Was watched with close attention, and given frequent applause.  Closed with three curtain calls.  All the papers are highly commending this morning.

Mlle. Emmrie Assisted by Mons. Silvern in a Parisan Novelty

13 min.  F.S. The act opens in a characteristically French manner.  Both man and woman appear in evening dress. Wine is brought on which the man drugs before the woman drinks.  She thereupon kicks his hat off and mounts a step-ladder to the trapeze, where she proceeds to disrobe.  This part of the act is a little tart, but, on the whole, inoffensive.  Then follows some of the best trapeze, ring and rope work we have seen here for some time.  The act is very Frenchy.  The applause

Clarice Vance

Made a very good impression but far from what I expected taking into consideration the good things I had heard of her in advance.  She will draw some here however on account of her husband being related to some very prominent local Jewish families.  She got by as what you would term an ordinary success and that is about all.  10 minutes in one.

Werden & Taylor

Man and woman doing illustrated songs.  The pictures are good as to coloring and the remainder of the act is of the conventional order.  Not a good act for this house on account of the innumerable picture and songs here of the five cent class.  Made no impression to speak of and had a tendency to make the show drag.  Don’t want this act again or in fact any moving picture or illustrated song offering.  17 minutes.

Countess Olga Rossi And Monsieur Paulo

Center Door Fancy.  Close in One.  Time 13 minutes.  The Countess is an unusually handsome woman of refined and charming appearance.  This act is a singing feature exclusively.  The Countess has a well trained voice, which she keeps under excellent control, and never once attempts to tear her lungs out by the roots, as many well dressed acts have done lately.  Paulo sits in a box at first.  He shows great enthusiasm for the Countess.  Finally he leaps on the stage and they continue the act to-gether.  Not a strong act, but one which took very well Monday afternoon.

Galletti’s Monkey Comedians

Galletti, Four Monkeys, One Dog.  Garden in 3.  Time 18 Minutes.  One of the best animal acts ever seen here.  The Monkeys are well trained, and their musical specialty on the “organ chimes” is a knockout.  The part in which the monkeys become barbers is also very funny.  A great act for the children, but it proves amusing for the older people as well.  A distinct feature on any bill.

The Boldens

Two Coons.  Man and Woman.  Time 16 minutes in One.  Man in comedy make-up.  A very good singing, talking and dancing act, which holds the attention of the audience.  The Hebrew Impersonation introduced is a novelty and makes a hit.  The Man is a good comedian, and makes a lot of funny falls all over the stage, which bring applause.  The woman is excess baggage.  One encore.
