Comedy sketch. This is only fair act. Their talk is very poor, and I had to cut several very vulgar words out. The woman is only fair, and she can’t sing. The man holds up the best part of the act having a very good voice. They finish with a duet in one, boy singing from box. Went fair. 16 minutes, full stage and close in one. Three shows.
Acrobatic and dancing, with ‘black art’ methods, comprising seven girls and two men. The ground tumbling of the men is excellent, and it might be called the feature of the act. This act does not add any new laurels to Ned Wayburn. It might make an excellent act for one of the burlesque wheels. 16 min, FS.
Presenting for the first time here ‘Billy’s Tombstones.’ This comedy was a knockout and quite the best things the Drews ever gave us. Some complaint was made regarding the use of swear words by one of the managers on the circuit, but I failed to catch anything of even the slightest in that line. In fact the comedy in the sort that would please a Puritan right off the Mayflower. 25 min, FS.
In one, 15 minutes. Miss Tanguay sings five songs in the spot light and makes a big hit, by jumping all over the stage and doing funny stunts with her voice. She is proving a big drawing card here this week. Many people do not like her act, but the majority do. She makes a rapid change before each song, appearing in beautiful and striking costumes.
Special set, full stage, 8 minutes. The act shows a minature [sic] street scene in which dogs and monkeys carry abut [sic] a melodrama without the appearance of their trainer at any time during the act. The animals are remarkably well trained and one dog that does ‘A Drunk’ makes as big a hit as I have ever seen in vaudeville. This whole act is a continuous scream.
Assisted by Monsieur Silvern. Palace in four. 13 minutes. This is a trapeze gymnastic novelty, the feature of which is the disrobing of Emerie which is done very cleverly from the full dress to tights in a manner which makes a big hit with the audience. Theact [sic] is absolutely refined and the finish is especially strong.
On at 4:35, 14 min, full stage. The word Beautiful applies to this woman, her costumes, her horse, her pony and her act in its entirety. One of the swellest horse acts I have ever seen. I wish it was possible to put it in the heard of the bill.
On at 3:18, 17 min, full stage. Unquestionably one of the showiest juggling acts in the world. He is certainly a marvel. Thawed quite a bit the icy reserved manifested by this afternoon’s audience.
A very clever lot of Fox Terriers that do quite a number of very good tricks and do them well. The man in the act works, which is more then can be said concerning the majority of animal sets. The set made good thoroughly. 8 minutes garden set.
Black face comedian who made a great effort to make good but whi [sic] failed dismally at both Monday performances. – He has a line of talk that would be O.K. in New York perhaps, but not for Columbus – I believe his manner is also against him, his delivery failing to make a pleasing impression. He manifested a tendency to roast the audience for not making up with him and was instructed to obliterate this line of comedy as our people are not accustomed to it. I really believe that in many houses he would make good but his act is not the style of monologuist [sic] that Columbus likes. 11 minutes Street.
