Sketch: “Fix in A Fix” – Four People: Two men: two women: — The theme is “Motherinlaw” – The star is a good comedian. – The set drags a little in the early part of same but eventually works up considerably and finishes fine for laughing purposes. – Bradshaw and his coworkers deserve great credit for doing as well as they did here for when a sketch makes good in this house something out of the ordinary has been accomplished. – The various roles are integrated satisfactory and we have not had anything that made them laugh more for some time. C.D.F. 26 minutes.
Just a ‘girl act.’ – Aside from the hard show dancing finish and the piano playing of Miss DeHaves the act was among ‘and others.’ – Nothing especially wrong about the act – simply in a town where the best girl acts in the business are worth about $100.00 per week to us. – It looked like a distinch [sic] fall down until the finish but they finally won out and saved themselves. – Personally I think the act is good of its kind but patrons here don’t seem to care for this style of offerings. ‘Cissie’s Dream.’ 30 min, FS, open and close in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:10. Well known on the Circuit. Though this act made a good impression, it cannot be said that it went as strong as previously. Walton’s work of course, is very artistic and subtle in humor, but his support leaves much to be desired. The part of Cissie and the nurse are not by any means as good as the former artisted [sic] in this role. Considering the price, this act falls short of requirements. At $750, it would seem that Mr. Walton could secure the ablest support. Closed fairly strong with curtain call.
Instrumentalists: – 14 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:58. Two women and one man. Violin and cello played by the women and an exaggerated type of guitar by the man. All rather expert musicians and soloists. The cellist is particularly good. Played some classic and popular selections and finished with a Dixie number. Received good hand for each selection and closed very well. As a straight musical act this is very good in the early or middle of the two-a-day section.
Jap. jugg. & acro: – 18 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 10:17. Eight superb acrobats. These people are better than on previous occasions. They have introduced some comedy that is a good highing [sic] hit and improves the act. All are superbly costumed, as might be expected; – with a magnificent embroidered drop. For skill, precision and beauty, the act could hardly be excelled. Finish a whirlwind of applause.
Comedienne: – 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:46. Small advance hand. Very pleasing little comedienne. Each one of her imitations got very good hand, – Anna Held, Marie Dressler, and particularly Eva Tanguay which was very strongly applauded. Imitations of Gec. M. Cohan was very strongly applauded, getting rousing hand. Seven curtain calls and an encore.
Novel juggling and sporting act, with a horse and three dogs. Act consists of fancy riding, juggling and a wee bit of strong work. Animals are very well trained. Very pleasing act, novel and original. A pity to sacrifice it to close the show. Very well received. 11 minutes full stage.
In a singing comedy “It happened in Utah”. Was under the impression this act was a farce instead of a singing sketch. Miss Mayhew portrays three characters, which serve to show her ability. Each of her characters are perfectly portrayed. Her songs are exceptionally bright and nicely rendered and she certainly got the laughs. Her support is good. Billie Taylor has a fairly good voice, and I presume if she was to play in a civilized neighbourhood she would prove a big drawing card. She was, however, the applause hit of the show at both performances. 20 Min. F.B.
Clown juggler. This man’s juggling is the smallest part of his set. His monologue is excellent, well put together and funny. Really remarkable for an Englishman, especially one who have been in this country but a short time. Act consists of juggling, hoop-rolling, and orange throwing from the audience. His general make up and conversation is original. He does a recitation in one and finishes with a bit of ventriloquial [sic] work which is clever. Regret that I cannot hive him a better place. Applause hit of the show up to this time. 23 minutes, full stage, about 8 minutes in one.
European Novelty Jugglers. First appearance at this house. Consider this one of the best juggling acts I have every seen in some time. Three men and two women. They are all very clever, and they are all neatly dressed. Went very big. 14 minutes, full stage.
