Presenting Lillian Burkhart’s comedy, “Jesse, Jack & Jerry”. This is a capital sketch and at the price is certainly a bargain and deserves a better place. Would stand billing as a headline attraction in other towns. It is quickly presented and continuous laughter throughout. Bradlee Martin is excellent and his support first-class. 18 min. Full stage.
I/M I/W. Straight musical act. Thorough musicians, surprised to see the way this act was received. They did fairly well considering that we have been playing musical acts for the last four weeks. 20 minutes full stage, 5 minutes in one.
Assisted by five Troubadours, playing mandolins and guitars, and a male partner she presented with him four Spanish dances and received equally as many curtains. She came here under a cloud on account of having, alone, done suggestive dance in New York. This we eliminated and she made a hit. Carried beautiful special scenery. Full stage.
“The Nightingale Courtship”. 12 min. Palace. These young men are made up as clowns and go talking and acrobatic work, finishing with a pantomime – “The Nightingale Courtship”. This is a very good act going very big with us.
Coon songs. 14 min. in one. I am somewhat disappointed in Miss Irwin. Her opening on Monday afternoon was very bad but at night she improved somewhat putting in a recitation that helped quite a little. However, she is not to be compared with many coon singers we have had and certainly does not commence with Stella Mayhew. I understand she was great in the act now being played by her sister Flo. I think if it were possible for her to arrange to get the act and introduce a couple of songs in it she would be much more valuable and would surely make good.
27 min, special drop in one. Going big. Cooper, the comedian of the quartette has the audience sing the chorus of ‘Dearie’ and handles them better than any one I have ever seen attempt this sort of thing. The audience go right in for it and enjoy it immensely. As a rule we are opposed to anything of the kind but I do not hesitate to say that in this case it surely helps the act and is a big hit.
These people do a very good nice turn, the feature being Mr. Watson’s yodeling. Personally, I believe the act would be better is they arranged a series of songs in One. The sketch does not ampint to a great deal, but as a whole gives satisfaction in a mild war. 10 Min. Full Stage. 2 shows.
Tramp monologuist. We have never had a worse failure in the house – from the standpoint of a big act – than Mr. Bloom’s act both yesterday afternoon and night. He got very few laughs, hardly any applause. It was an absolute effort for him to get back for his encores and hold the stage for 13 min. I can’t understand his great success in other places for he has not the goods and I can only say that the audiences must be very easy where he has played. No more for me. 13 min. in one, 2 shows.
I wish to add to emphasize my original report on this act. That without question it is the worst Gold Brick that was ever brought into this theatre. At Fifty dollars a week and three shows he might have been considered fair only. This is not exaggerated in the least and can be verified by any performers upon the bill this week. He has been unable to get any applause or laughter whatever and has been the worse roasted act generally, from the standpoint of anything like his salary that I ever heard. Last night he only got away with nine minutes. I am sending this further report around for the protection of the circuit generally, because in spite of the fact he made good in a couple of theatres, I am satisfied that he would fall down in eight out of ten and there is no reason why he should be a success because he is not clever and has nothing in the way of material.
On account of Miss Mayhew’s previous success here in ‘Coming Thro the Rye’ she great value for us and she is an exceptionally clever woman as well, but even as salaries go now days, I think she is twice paid. My show was dreadfully handicapped by her sketch not making good as expected, leaving me in a hole for a really good full stage act in the big part of the show. However, she went very well indeed altho I am not crazy to play her again at the same price. 12 min. in one, 2 shows.
Miss Raymond makes an attractive appearance, is assisted by two young men who do wooden shoe dancing very well. She introduces her acrobatic dance during the specialty, the whole making a very pleasing offering. I am obliged to give the, this position on the bill because Miss Raymond changed the character of the act and as it stands at present it would conflict with Ryan & White who were already booked. The Ruby Raymond act is worthy of a much better place on the bill. 12 min. in one, 3 shows.
