McCrea & Poole

NR 3. Full stage, 13 minutes. Two young men, sharp shooters. One of the greatest exhibitions of short range marksmanship ever seen in this house. Not a bullet went wrong, and every shot strongly applauded, the audience never tiring of their shooting.

Mills & Morris

GYH 3. Drop in one, 14 minutes. Two young ladies in a blackface minstrel specialty. They use the chairs as in the Crane Brothers act, with tambourine and bones, and give an old time minstrel act, which has an essence of novelty about it. While the girls have fair voices, their songs seem to suit and they made the audience laugh. Their jokes are very old, but everyone went with a roar. A very pleasing act on any bill.

Duffy, Sawtelle & Duffy

GHR 2. 23 minutes, full stage. Man, woman and boy in a comedy entitled Papa’s Sweetheart”. An excellent act for an early place. Full of good laughs. The boy is backbone of the act, and is one of the best juvenile comedians we have had here. They finish with a duett, while the boy gives an imitation of Sousa, which is very good. They responded to three curtain calls. Close in one.

Mabel McKinley

2 shows, 12 min. full stage. First time here. Was applauded when she came on, showing clearly that she had been an important factor in drawing the large audience which practically filled every portion o the auditorium from orchestra to top balcony. As a vocalist, there is no gain saying the fact that she is quite ordinary and if she were paid in proportion to her singing ability, she would not receiving one-sixth of her present salary. She is good for one trip on the strength of her relationship to the late President McKinley, and that lets her off.

Thomas J. Ryan and Mary Richfield

2 shows, 25 min. full stage. Presenting for the first time their latest comedy sketch “Mike Haggerty’s Daughter”. It is a typical Cressey concoction, being largely a play upon words and clever dialogue, almost every sentence of which drew forth laughter. I think it will score a big hit during the week.

Nora Bayes

2 shows, 13 min. in 1. Got the first advance reception of the afternoon but her first two numbers did not go very strong. Her third selection, a foolish, broken dialect lot of nonsense carried her strong, but at that she was not such a hit as on the occasion of her previous engagement.

Eddie Girard and Jessie Gardner

2 shows, 27 min. full stage. Presenting one of their funny “Officer Dooley” sketches, with some change of dialogue and songs. Went just as strong as if it were being given for the first time.

Gus Williams

2 shows, 15 min. in 1. This old-time comedian did not have a such good line of stuff as he has used during previous engagements, but he went well at that, though I think it was largely through sympathy.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison

2 shows, 17 min. open in 3, close in 1. In their character and singing sketch, “Minnie from Minnesota”, in which the woman does some excellent work and the man sings a catchy topical song. Went well, but not so strong as last time they were here.

Carlo and His Dogs

3 shows, 10 min. full stage. This is a pretty “sight” act of an equilibristic and acrobatic nature. It is not an animal act of the customary sort. Received lots of applause all through.
