2 shows, 10 min in 1. Got a solid reception on her appearance, proving that she will draw her salary. She still retains her beauty of face and symmetry of figure, but her singing voice continues to deteriorate. Received some complimentary applause after all selections, but she was a bit of a disappointment to most people, I fancy.
3 shows, 17 min, open in 1, close in 3. Lynch did very well on his ‘shine’ songs, and the balance of the act went nicely. Owing to the lack of comedy in the early part of the show, I have requested them to do their old act, which has not been given here for nearly four years, and will be new. This will liven up the program considerably where it is most needed.
I expected from these people only a wire walking act and surprised to have them introduce some most remarkable tumbling. Their wire walking is also probably the best we have ever had in this house and certainly the most attractive. The act made unqualified hit and is unquestionably the feature of the show. 15 min, full stage, 2 shows.
This was the greatest fall down of the whole show. I had them down ahead of the Carmen Troupe which position they in no way could hold. They got a little applause in spots but went off with scarcely a thing. There is some merit in the act undoubtedly but they seem to lack the force necessary to reach the audience. The act also somewhat conflicts with that of Gardner & Vincent, for that reason they were no doubt handicapped and they should not be one of our bills later than 8:30 or three in the afternoon. 24 min, open and close in one, 2 shows.
There is no doubt there was a great disappointment felt by the audience in this act. They didn’t seem to like her nearly as well as Milly Capell and she was really a great fall down to the show. Horse acts have never been in great demand with Providences audiences and I think that in the future it would be well to cut them out unless they have more attractiveness than those we have played, at least I should not care to repeat Miss Gardner again. 15 min, full stage, 2 shows.
Novelty act, the novelty of which is producing music from articles of furniture, bicycles, etc. While the music does not amount to much the surprise created to the audiences makes the act go well and for that reason should be rated as good. 14 min, open in 3, close in one, 2 shows.
This girl has a quite clever act and she went very decently with the audience. Some of her methods are a little bit coarse however, and I though it went well to exchange places with her and Sophie Burnham, bringing Miss Burnham up to this point on the bill. 11 min in one, 3 shows.
Gymnasts. One of the best acts ever seen in this house. They do a novelty serial ladder act, their costumes being entirely white against a black background. They so some exceedingly pretty work on the ladder, which is given a rotary motion and swings horizontally, they are very daring and attractive, their finish being a breakaway which creates a great sensation. They are certainly gymnasts of unusual accomplishments. Act goes great. Full stage, 12 min.
Acrobatic comedy duo. This team has played here several times and always make good. We consider it one of the best acts of the kind that comes to this house. Miss Nichols is very pretty, a nice dancer, and always has a smile that takes. Donahue’s comedy in good. The act of quick action and gets good applause. Full stage, close in one, 13 min.
Tommy Atkins Toe Dancer. The first time at this house. She is very fine dancer, makes several quick changes, is very graceful and attractive on the stage. One of the best opening acts that we have had, is worthy of a better place on the bill. Full stage, 9 min.
