22 mins. Fancy in 3. In “His Japanese Wife.” Three people in the company – two women and a man. Miss Bergere in the character of the Japanese girl is on the stage most of the time, and does some excellent character work. Her support is good. The sketch is a bit “talky” but is interesting throughout, and the dialogue contains a great deal of quiet comedy – the kind our audience can thoroughly appreciate. Though quiet and lacking action, the sketch is good, and Miss Bergere does all that could be expected of her. Good act.
20 mins. Landscape in 4. Comedy and novelty musical act. Have been described before on the circuit. The novelty is very interesting, and the act went very well. Their comedy is not of a very high grade, but the novelty and the music carry the act. Good act.
European Juggler. First appearance in America. He only played three performances, was taken quite ill and obliged to give up, much to our regret. The act is a good one and held audience to the close. Full stage. Time 12 minutes
“Taking a Tonic”. This team are great favorites here; this is the first time they have presented the act in this house. It is on the same order as the other acts of the “Sammy and Sarah” series. It suited our audience and went very strong. Full stage, close in one. Time 25 minutes.
Sketch. This is a condensed version of the fourth act of Sardou’s Masterpiece “La Toska”. It is one of the best dramatic sketches we have had this season. The acting of both MacDowell and Miss Willard is perfection; the act is beautifully staged, and made a decided hit. It has created a great amount of talk. Full stage. Time 21 minutes.
“A Stand Off”. This is their new sketch which is good and capitally acted. Went much stronger than the old sketch (“A Stolen Kiss”) of last week. Full stage. Time 23 minutes.
Contralto. Miss George has a fine voice and good selections, which the audience appreciated, and gave her a very generous applause. A decided hit. All in one. Time 11 minutes.
Vienna Caricature Dancers. This is the first appearance at this house, and they certainly made good. Their singing is only incidental in connection with their dancing. Both are graceful and fine dancers. Act went very strong. Good act. Full stage. Time 8 minutes.
“Life Savers at Work”. This is 14 min. Film full of life deeply interesting, and holds the undivided attention of audience.
This is perhaps the best animal act of its kind in this country. Wormwood has added two bears to his troupe. They are well trained, and the whole act can be called great. 25 mins. F.S.
