The Four Ushers

The Four Ushers, introduced with a “sympathy” speech in which it was held forth that they were not booked and that what this audience did would fix whether or not they remained in show business, were over before they were on. The girls look like ushers and act like them. There are two good voices in the four, a contralto and a soprano. Their clothes look homemade and their stage technique ditto. In harmony singing they were strong if not artistic. They got plenty of applause.19

Sasson, Ward and Joslin

[New Act] Singing. 14 min.; one. American Roof. Three men wearing dress suits and high hits in a repertoire of harmonized pop and operatic numbers. All have good voices. The harmony of the usual close type is tuneful and subdued. There is a bit of comedy interpolated here and there, one of the men essaying the liebraic [sic] character with good results. Good small timers.

Lillian Schreiber

Songs. 11 minutes in One. Miss Schreiber is a tiny mite of humanity, very cute, petite, with a pesky voice and childish appearance and manners. Sings three songs, the first, is a little girl’s frock, second, in a military costume, third, in a rosie costume. Went good. A novelty.

Adele Ritchie

22 minutes f.s. music room, with short close in one. as far as Boston is concerned, Miss Ritchie hasn’t got a great deal left except her name, which undoubtedly drew business. For a singing act she held this spot in very good shape.

College Trio

18 min. F.S. Three very clever fellows, all of them good singers, one of them with an exceptionally brilliant voice and use a drop which displays all the college colors of the country. No end of good material and put over in fine shape with lots of life and ginger. Ought to draw well with the student class. Closed very strong.

Minnie Allen

Miss Allen is entitled to a lot of credit for getting out of the beaten path and getting some songs that are unusual and novel. Went very well with the audience this afternoon. 14 Min. in One.

Marion Littlefield’s Florentine Singers

23 min. Special, full stage. Close in One. 3 min. One of the best singing acts in vaudeville, taking a number of encores at every performance. I do not think I have ever heard better voices in any vaudeville act that we have ever played.

Marie Fenton

Rather surprised in the manner this young lady was received, considering that she is following a big singing and dancing skit. Her selections are very good, each receiving a good hand, with big applause at the finish. Twelve minutes in one.

Belle Baker

14 min. in one. Strong advance hand. Miss Baker made a very strong first impression here this afternoon and got the crowd right from the first. She infuses lots of life and ginger into her work, and is a character entertainer right to her finger-tips. Her songs are new and excellent and she puts them over convincingly. Big hand after each selection and compelled to give an encore.

Musical Gordon Highlanders

12 min. F.S. Three men and a woman all making a fine appearance in their Scotch costumes. While through force of circumstances we were compelled to use this act to open the show, it is too much good for that position, and whenever it is our good fortune to play the act back here, it will have a good spot as it should have on every other bill. A hit.
