A very clever performance who sang a number of songs of varied character and got them over to a decided hit. 20 min. in one.
Character Songs. A good performer, gets her songs over in fine shape, act good enough for any house and any spot in the bill. 12 min in 1.
Character songs and changes. A neat little act which went big. 17 minutes. Opens in one, goes into two, then closes in one.
This was a pretty hard spot for Miss Shaw and at the salary she is receiving here this week I probably have no reason to complain at the way she was received. Still, the fact remains that she was by no means a riot, and were I paying the salary she is asking I would consider myself bounced out of at least $200. She went very well and that is all there is to it. I can understand where she bigger New York hit than in in other cities; in that case New York might pay her the salary she is asking and let the other cities pay her what she is worth to them which is just what she is getting now. 18 Min. in One.
31 min. F.S. This well known American character singer repeated her past successes, and with her new line of songs is bound to be a big drawing card for us. Miss Franklin received an enthusiastic welcome, good applause after each number, and was compelled to make a little curtain speech before the audience would let her go.
30 minutes f.s. A positive hit. The audience could not get enough of her.
Unquestionably a great artist and, while no doubt the great bulk of the audience probably do not appreciate him at his full value—especially at the salary received—I was pleased to note today that they are brainy enough to realize the greatness of the man’s work. 30 Min. in 1 ½.
English character actor. A great artist portraying characters which are not understood and consequently not appreciated. They are entirely foreign to our audiences and from a business standpoint his engagement is a failure. From the present outlook the week will be one of the worst of the season.
Musical imitations. 12 minutes in 1. Holds this spot in very good shape closing with three bows.
A turn of character songs. This is the woman who was formerly of the team of Riley and Wolfe, and while there is nothing especially brilliant about the act, she is a clean cut, nicely dressed woman, making a good stage appearance, sings two or three new songs, tells one or two stories, and makes an exceptionally acceptable break between sketches and acrobatic acts. 10 minutes in one.
