Star Messo-Soprano. Has a voice of wonderful sweetness of expression, and her selections made a decided hit. Used grand piano accompaniment only with full stage. For concert work however, her rendition is extremely operatic, but as a whole, her engagement was a great success. Time 15 minutes.
A man and two woman who do a singing turn of the operatic order. They carry special scenery which is very artistic and their costumes are original and neat. Their voices are good and blend exceedingly well. The act goes big with the audience. 13 minutes full stage
A most excellent singing act divided into two parts—“Gypsy life” and “The Carnival of Venice”. The individual and ensemble work of the various singers in this offering is of the most admirable character and none of it failed to score. The act held the undivided attention from beginning to end, and the finish was such as could leave no doubt in the mind of anyone as to the success of this very meritorious presentation. 29 minutes, special sets in 5 and 2.
28 min. F.S., close in one. This is the best operatic combination that we have ever had. The voices are admirably trained and every selection was given with dramatic intensity and musical precision. The costuming and stage setting are both very effective and every number received a big hand. This is a strong musical town, and for that reason I think the act will draw money. The close with the gondola scene and the finish in one, with the confetti throwing into the audience, won big applause.
9 women, 5 men. Time 26. Open F.S. special, to 1, close F.S. also special. The act is beautifully costumed and elaborately staged. As might be expected of a Lovenberg act, the soloists are all excellent, and the ensemble highly effective winning prolonged applause. Henriette Keyes and Henri Santrey have truly remarkable voices. The selections are from Grand Opera and the better grade of musical comedies. The finale during which paper ribbons are thrown into the audience in keeping with Venetian carnival illusion, is effective, novel and held the audience to the last. Applause generous throughout.
2 shows—14 minutes—prison scene in 2—encore in 1—bit of grand opera of Faust—Edith Decker of San Francisco as Marguerite carries act to success—she possesses a pure soprano of rare sweetness and unusual strength—act invariably gets recall.
‘A Lesson in Opera.’ FS, closing in 1. Man and woman in Spanish costumes, making a very good presentation, giving selections from the Operas, with comedy between. Both have excellent voices and sing with taste, displaying accurate training. It is the kind of musical act that always goes well here. Selection well applauded and a strong hand and encore at the close. 20 min.
Contralto. This woman makes a very pleasing appearance. Has a great voice and good selections. She didn’t go as well as on previous occasions, probably due to having too many women vocalists. She is getting entirely too much money. I can get all the straight singing acts the circuit desires for $100.00. 8 min. in one – 2 shows.
Man and woman. Operatic sketch entitled ‘A Lesson in Opera.’ There are a hundred women in Cleveland who can sing all around this girl. Her opening song was so bad that I had a burning desire to run down cellar and hide. The act is not strong enough for this place. The man tries to carry it, but he has not sufficient help to do it alone, and this after-noon he failed miserably. Half the people in the house seemed to give a sigh of relief, when it was all over. Little courtesy applause. CDF in three. 20 min.
KR 3. Two young ladies, singing operatic selections. One is a soprano; other a contralto. Sing solos and duets. Soprano has a very sweet voice. A very good straight singing act for the three show section. 11 mins. in one.
