Clown juggler. This man’s juggling is the smallest part of his set. His monologue is excellent, well put together and funny. Really remarkable for an Englishman, especially one who have been in this country but a short time. Act consists of juggling, hoop-rolling, and orange throwing from the audience. His general make up and conversation is original. He does a recitation in one and finishes with a bit of ventriloquial [sic] work which is clever. Regret that I cannot hive him a better place. Applause hit of the show up to this time. 23 minutes, full stage, about 8 minutes in one.
European Novelty Jugglers. First appearance at this house. Consider this one of the best juggling acts I have every seen in some time. Three men and two women. They are all very clever, and they are all neatly dressed. Went very big. 14 minutes, full stage.
On at 3:18, 17 min, full stage. Unquestionably one of the showiest juggling acts in the world. He is certainly a marvel. Thawed quite a bit the icy reserved manifested by this afternoon’s audience.
On at 2 o’clock, 16 min full stage, 3 min close in 1; 21 min in all. ‘The Jestive Juggler.’ This fellow made a very pronounced hit here today, and I regret that I cannot give him a much better position on the bill, for I feel sure that he could hold it. He got almost innumerable laughs this afternoon. While his juggling tricks do not amount to much, his line of talk and by-play are immense. He tells me that he is only over here for four weeks, but thinks he could set back some of his foreign time if he is offered more time here; however, he is already wise to his worth and says that it has got to be at a better figure than $125. He certainly proved himself superior to many acts that we are paying two hundred.
Oriental Jugglers. Three in number made up as Japs. They have a good routine of stuff and perform it rapidly. Their juggling is unusually well manipulated. They work with bells, knives, firebrands, etc – and many of their tricks are similar to those performed by the Mowatts. The comedy end of their work is executed by one man who does the apple catening stunt about the same as Fred Pelot. The act makes good from beginning to end and really received as much favorable attention as anything on the bill. 12 minutes palace.
The Juggling Kids. 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. One works eccentric and the other straight. Work with table, rings, indian-clubs, bouncing balls, etc. Makes a very good opener. Received good applause for their work, although their comedy is a little shy. Closing feat got a good hand.
[Jugglers] Although I don’t play these two acts in this double manner I want to send my review on them together as that is the way they are booked. I cannot, for the life, figure out why these people get $250. Harding & Ah Sid in this house are not worth over $125 and they might possibly be worth $150 somewhere else. Really I think they belong in the three a day class. They failed to score a hit here entirely. Olive does an act which for three shows a day, would be worth $50 – certainly no more. That would bring their joint salary up, at best, to $175 and that is big for them, especially if they do two shows. Olive does a fair little act, in a way, for an early spot on the supper show but cannot be used to advantage later than 7:30. Time for Harding and Ah Sid – 15 min. open in full stage, close in 1. Time for Olive – 11 min. full stage. Both 2 shows.
YHR 2. Five boys, club juggling act, and a corking good one. The work received continuous applause. The last “sight” act for an applause getter that we have had here in weeks. 10 mins. Gar. 5.
Tramp Juggler. He does a little juggling, sings some parodies and finishes up with about three minutes of talking; in some places very slangy. He did not go very well down on the bill so I was obliged to move him up farther. 16 minutes in one.
KR 3. Two men, comedy jugglers, clown makeup. A very good three show juggling act for this house, and could make good in a better place, could we place them. 12 mins. Gar. 4. Close in one.
