Character imitations. A very clever act, much improved, containing new matter beside his Rip Van Winkle performance. His vaudeville work comprises excellent characterizations of Weber and Fields (with a dummy) Jimmy Russeel, Joe Hart, John L. Sullivan, Lew Dockstader and Richard Mansfield. The field covered shows conclusively Mr. Stephen’s versatile ability, and the four scenes given from Rip Van Winkle are also extremely good. He uses several assistants in character and carries his own drops. Made a decided hit here at each performance. 27 mins.
19 min. full stage. As this act has been reviewed in the other houses of the circuit, it is unnecessary for me to do so, further than to say that it is only good for an early place in the bill. The little boy makes the hit, and he went big with the audience today, especially with his imitation of Billy Clifford.
Italian character comedian. Street in one. This chap made a big hit.
3 shows. 12 min. in one. Hebrew vocalist and mimic. He is a very good singer, and his impersonation of Joe Welch quite life-like. He hardly got applause enough, however, to warrant his returning after each selection, due to the fact that the audiences in his house do not understand or appreciate the type of character impersonated by him.
(15 mins.) This act is very much of the small time caliber. Daniels is simply playing up his old character change act with the assistance of a girl. At its best it is only fair.
24 min in 1 spec. Scale interpolated some of his older characters for this engagement and went over just as big as ever.
“Tramp Comedian.” Talking, singing and dancing, principally talking. Received a few laughs through act — a fair hand at finish. 12 min. in one.
22 min in 1 spec. Mr Berry in the “Rube” seemed to please and got quite a few laughs. About time they presented something new.
22 min. Well known legitimate character actor who presents bits from Shylock, Rip Van Winkle and a Kentucky racehorse scene, making up for each character in view of the audience. He is a clever artist and gets good results. There was liberal applause at the finish.
character songs and impersonations. A young girl who appears first in a little impersonation called “Sis Perkins” it being after the “Sis Hopkins” type in pretty well done. Makes change and does a straight song and finishes with a scare-crow dance. Not an important act by any means, but still very acceptable considering the scarcity of good turns in one. 8 minutes, in one.
