18 min in one. First appearance here. Miss Montrose makes a good appearance and started off with a song down in a pretty costume, then preceded to make up back of a screen with her hand showing over the top, keeping up a running fire of chatter while making three changes with a help of a dresser behind the screen. Talk not particularly brilliant. Gave four character impersonations, the best being Miss Proschard from “The two Orphans”. Fair applause after each number and closed fairly well. Not an act for a strong spot on the bill.
12 min in one. A clever entertainer who held this spot on the bill very acceptably with character studies, such as, the manicure girl, the department store demonstrator, etc. Received good applause. All right for an early spot.
Comedy characters impersonations of a Manicurist, Old Man, Amateur Performers and demonstrator. Makes her changes from her own table on stage which adds novelty to the act. Went very good in this spot. 13 min. in one.
16 min. full stage. Own set. Held the interest throughout, received good applause after each character presented and closed to big hand.
Assisted by Mlle. Jeanette. Impersonations. Mlle D’Arville attempts four characters and allows the jury to see how she makes the changes, which naturally keeps them quiet. Her voice is very bad and the act is impossible. Thirteen minutes, opens and closes in one.
“Famous Characters in Famous Scenes.” Mr. Stephens is giving us this year “Shylock,” “Mr. Pickwick,” “Hip Van Winkle” and “Judas.” All are well done. He carries a lot of scenery, which helps the act a lot and there is a company of four supporting hits. F.S.
21 minutes f.s. Special set. “Helping the Cause.” It may be that our audiences are not “up” to the modern English Suffragette character, but they failed to grasp the humor of the situations at both performances to-day. Mrs. Langtry received a reception on her entrance and closed well.
“Famous Characters in Famous Scenes.” 24 minutes f.s. Special sets. Stephens is doing four characters this trip, “Shylock,” “Mr. Pickwick,” “Rip Van Winkle,” and “Judas Iscariot,” each presented with appropriate scenic and electrical effects. Every impersonation was applauded to-night, and he finished big.
21 min. F.S. Mr. Shea has an original idea for the presentation of his three famous characterizations, and each of these he did well, and received big applause. Mr. Shea ably supported by a cast of three.
A very fine character impersonator; he made a most decided hit. 23 min. in two, short close in one.
