Trick cyclist, had some good tricks and went very good. 15 min, full stage.
10 minutes full stage. Very good cycle act. Opens a little slow but finishes strong.
F.S. Time 16. 2 assistants. The biggest front of the season. With a stage full of imposing apparatus, Buckner comes out and stalls about mysteriously. Then he goes up an inclined ladder and rides down. This thrilling event did not bring up a single hand. Then he does a little work picking up a handkerchief while balancing himself on the wheel. The applause was not deafening. Then he rides down a few steps, without creating a riot. Finally he mounts a tower and after stalling for about five minutes he bumps down on a unicycle a series of steps set about three feet apart, down to the stage level. He closes with a little weak comedy consisting of jumping over six prostrate stagehands on a unicycle. The act is no headliner and does not justify any exceptional billing. Buckner may have been a sensation at the New York Hippodrome (as he asserts), but he far from one at the Cleveland Hippodrome.
Comedy cyclists. Now days bicycle acts have got to be really great or they are nothing, and while these fellows do some things that a few years ago might have been considered wonderful they are by no means up to the time now. The comedy work is very ordinary and they do no very startling tricks on the wheels. From a standpoint of two shows and salary, fairly good, is the best I can give them. 15 min. full stage.
MRR 2 – This is an act which I booked as an experiment in order to get something in the way of a novelty. It introduces Walthour and Kramer, the expert bicycle riders. Kramer first introduces an exhibition mile ride on the home trainer with the dial behind him indicating the distance. He is followed by Walthour who also does a mile. This part of the act is not especially interesting as everybody has seen it. In the finish a horse is introduced on the endless platform, similar to that used in “The Country Fair,” and ridden by Walthour. There is a half mile race with Walthour on the home-trainer. It is really quite an exciting bit, and I think it again in a day or two, and I would like to have the others see it too to determine its value as an advertising feature. It is booked in Brooklyn for next week, so that it could not follow on the circuit until the 7thof September at any rate. It is certainly a decided novelty and the finish is very exciting. 15 minutes, full stage.
GRR-3 – Introducing three men and one woman, and utilizing the whirl with the upright section. They did all right this afternoon, and the riding was very acceptable, but it is evident that the public has seen all they care to of cycle whirls, and we shall not attempt to send this act any further on the circuit. 7 mins. full stage.
Two men in a bicycle act. One man doing the straight work and the other a comedian doing some good work on freak wheels. Pleased in this position. Full stage.
Comedy Bicyclist. This fellow is a very good cycle rider in a comedy way and introduces (before commencing the work on the wheel) a song in tramp character which is also quite good. It is a very acceptable three-show-a-day turn. 15 min., full stage.
The Dare Devil Cyclist. A good sensational novelty act suitable for any bill. His stunts on a bicycle are great and he had them all talking, will draw some money here. Done 10 minutes full stage and went off with good hand.
Two men in a comedy bicycle act, one of them made up straight and the other as a Hebrew. These people do a clever act, as they have always done, and the comedian’s methods are entirely original; besides which he introduces some really remarkable feats on the wheel. It is a good strong act. 11 minutes, full stage.
