Ahearn’s Six Day Bicycle Race

Twelve men in as sloppy a looking exhibition as I have ever seen the days when burlesque was at its worst. Slap-stick comedy predominates all through and nothing had been overlooked. Ahearn ought to contribute the services of his old act for a week for nothing to square himself for foisting this act on us in its present shape. The act has really good possibilities but there is too much of a sameness to it at the present time. A good trick rider should be introduced, the makeup of some of the “comedians” should be cleaned up and then the act should hide away out of town for a few weeks to get it in proper shape before showing to a regular audience. Special set in 4. Time 10 min.

Hill & Sylvainy

Sensational bicyclists. Man and woman, 11 minutes in 4, doing just about the same line of stuff they have done for years. At the matinee several tricks were cut. Finished very well. Good for an opener. (Open.)

Hill & Sylvainy

Man and woman – bicycle act. 9 min F.S. Nearly all the work is done on an old-fashioned high wheel bicycle and unicycle tricks on a wagon wheel, concluding with the man riding down a flight of stops on a single wheel with the woman on his shoulders. Only a fair act. With the exception of Joe Jackson and the Chas. Ahoarn Troupe, the people here are tired of bicycle acts and start to leave the house as soon as the curtain goes up on a bicycle. Open next week – then Cleveland.

Sebastian Merrill and Co.

“Gyroscopomedians.”  3 people. Got a lot of comedy out of different bicycles which they introduce, their finish is a hair raiser. The two men mount a tandem suspended from the fly floor and ride an incline turning a complete somersault and landing right side up. Made a great closing act. 14 min. full stage.

Hanegan Polo Troupe

9 minutes f.s. These two teams of polo players using bicycles, worked the game up to considerable excitement this afternoon and the act is one that I believe will be talked about.

Palfrey & Barton

Comedy Acrobatic Cyclists. One of the best comedy bicycle acts I have ever played and it seems a shame to have to open the show with them. The straight man does some difficult stuff while his partner is way ahead of any others I have seen working with a bicycle act in the way of comedy. They carry a lot of paraphernalia, some of which they were unable to use here. This act really ought to be down in the middle of the bill or closing the show. As a result of their position they start the show off in gingery fashion and won more solid applause from our “show-me” Monday crowd than any opening act we have ever had in the house. Wood in 4. Time 15 min.

Chas. Ahearn Troupe

13 min. F.S. This great comedy scream has been perfected till it is now one of the most riotously funny closing acts in Vaudeville. Their collection of freak bicycles is a laugh just to look at, but the manner in which they handle them has the audience convulsed, while the pace race against time brings the act up to a smashing finish. Bigger and better than ever before.

Sebastian Merrill & Co.

Comedy Bicycle act, including some thrilling tricks, as well as ludicrous ones. A very good act. 15 Min. F.S.

13 minutes f.s. This is a might good closing act. The comedy as a rule is good, although some of it might be omitted, and the finish is very sensational.

Schaar-Wheeler Trio

Two men and a woman in a bicycle act, one man and woman straight, the other man comedy kid. They introduce an interesting routine of work, all of which held the attention and at various times gained applause. Quite a number of very good tricks shown. The act made an excellent opener. Closed strong. 12 minutes, garden in 5.
