10 min. Originally scheduled to open the show this act failed to arrive in time and went on in the closing position, a hard spot for this act. It held lots of interest, however and considering the handicap scored solidly. Birds go through a showy routine and the act is attractively staged.
15 min. The fact that Howard keeps his act freshened up by the introduction of new tricks with the dogs and ponies makes this one of the best animal acts in vaudeville, It was places earlier than usual on the bill but held the spot in excellent shape and gave the first half of the show a big boost.
12 min. f.s. Special set. The elimination of some draggy material formerly used for an opening has improved this act. Now they get right down to the roping without loss of time and finish with the bucking horses. They closed the show, held the audience interested and got several hands off applause.
This man deserves credit for being able to present a trained pony act in such a novel manner. The act almost takes on the appearance of a sketch, Most attractive for children and made good with the grown-ups as well. He ought to be a great object lesson to some of the other animal trainers who say that there is nothing new possible to be done with trained ponies. 16 minutes full stage.
Stage setting as a toy shop – suddenly they come to life; four ponies and three dogs; (Three men) Ponies and dogs do their regular stunts to the amusement of all; went good. 15 min. full stage. This act was here about a year ago.
A clever offering in special set 15 min. Special set. Some good bare back riding and a lot of comedy out of the finish of act where they show how riders are taught. Went good.
Four bears, 8 dogs, three monkeys, one ant eater. Two assistants. Among the many stunts these animals perform are: Playing musical instruments, dancing, standing on their heads, riding bicycles, juggling back and forward, somersaults, etc. 14 min, full stage; went good.
27 min. Positively one of the most thrilling animal acts ever presented in vaudeville. There is an interesting moving picture preceding the appearance of the lions and holds the audience interested. Marck appears in a cage with four ferocious lions, while other members of the company, including two women, two men and a child are huddled behind a drop showing the interior of a house. Marck puts the lions through their paces and as a climax has them jumping about the stage in apparant [sic] wild frenzy. It is a most striking finish and held the audience spellbound for a few minutes and then closed to a tremendous round of applause.
Two monkeys, who work somewhat after the style of Consul and other chimpanzees and which is unquestionably a good act, altho [sic] a little slow. When one compares them to Consul and Peter, naturally they suffer through the comparison, but we are not paying any such money as we paid the more celebrated monkeys and in some way there is an element of comedy in this act that we didn’t get in the others. I see no reason why the act shouldn’t be considered of reasonable value at the salary paid. 18 Min. F.S.
“The World’s Greatest Dog, Mathematician and Mind Reader.” Worked by a man, the dog works rather slow which makes it rather long drawn our, but the act went over good. 23 min. C.D.F.
