Milly Capell

In Sporting Act. Her Arabian Stallion and trained dogs make a closing act of rare excellence and interest. Positively the best European production ever presented at our house; a decided hit. Miss Capell’s appearance is most graceful and commanding, and her perfect mastery over the animals is on a part with their own wonderful sagacity. Full stage. Time 10 minutes.

Hayes & Healy

Circus Rider & Ringmaster. Same old act without the slightest variation throughout, either in action or comedy. Both are competent artists in their line and make a hit as usual, but a little new matter worker in here and there would greatly improve the act. Goes well however. Full stage, time 18 minutes.

Taffary’s Dogs

YRR 2. Much to my surprise, these dogs went very nicely this afternoon. I had imagined that the act would fall down terribly following Merian’s, but he certainly made good, and it is really a great troupe of canines. 11 minutes, full stage.

Taffary’s Dogs

2 shows, 12 min. full stage. Pretty and attractive animal act, probably as neatly presented as anything in the varieties. Went with laughter and applause all through.

Merian’s Dogs

MRR 2. Merian tried this week his mind reading dog to open his act with, and it was not a great success. I presume the dog worked badly for one thing, but the other portion of the act is so strong that I don’t think it advisable to use this part of it, although it might be acceptable in some of the houses where they remain three weeks. The act went very strong indeed, and I can only repear that it is the best troupe of dogs, I think, in the world. 17 minutes, full stage.

Milly Capell

Capell and her performing horse and hunting dogs. Judging from yesterday’s audience this is about the strongest animal act that we have ever imported. The woman is a strikingly pretty girl and the horse is a beauty. She does no riding at all but puts the animal through a lot of high grade training movements, which he [horse] accomplishes with wonderful accuracy and grace. The finish of the act where she and her hose to the march around the stage with the dogs cutting figure 8’s between their limbs and the fore and hand limbs of the horse, makes a tremendous hit. I have extended her time on the circuit from four to seven weeks. 10 minutes; full stage.

Wormwood’s Dogs and Monkeys

20 min. full stage, 2 shows. This is also in my mind they best act of its kind as the animals seem to have no fear of the trainer. There is so much comedy in the act that it will be the drawing card for the week.

Marian’s Dogs

MRR 2. This is unquestionably the greatest dog act in the world, and the audience were laughing and applauding the entire time it was before them. The dogs play a perfect little play, and there is no sign of the trainer until the act is entirely finished. I don’t think there is any question but that tit will run three weeks acceptably in both Philadelphia and Boston. 11 minutes, full stage.

Kreisel’s Dogs, Cats and Monkeys

3 shows, 13 min. full stage. A nice, clean little act that pleases the women and children at the matinees. Not of sufficient importance to interest the male patrons.

The Clarkonians

Three men and two beautiful horses. This act is inferior to the riding act of Helene Girard or the Wentworth’s. Two of the men do graceful riding, and the third furnishes comedy of the most mediocre kind. 8 min, F.S.
