Prelle’s Dogs

12 min. F.S. 3 shows. This is one of the most novel dog acts we have ever had. Fifteen dogs are dressed up as elephants, horses, manikins, etc. The act includes some ventriloquism. Started off a little slow, but before it was half through the audience was applauding and laughing at the novelty of this feature. The children will especially delight in it. In fact, it is a very good children’s act.

Mlle Mabel.

3 shows, 15 min. open full stage, close in 1. Exhibiting monkeys, dogs, and a lemur, the latter she is showing as a very rare species of animal. The animals are neither well trained nor do they do anything out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, the young woman has a pleasing personality, and will take with the women and children. Just a fair act for the 3-a-day section.

Berzac’s Circus

2 shows, 15 min. full stage. Consisting of four handsome ponies and a clever donkey. He opens his act with some hurdle jumping by the ponies and then invites anyone to ride ‘Kruger,’ the donkey. We had several aspirants today, but none were successful, although their attempts were hilariously funny. He closes by having one of the ponies gallop a revolving table and then invites anyone in the audience to attempt the same feat, and if successful, he will present them with his week’s salary. Made the biggest hit of the kind today and it is unquestionably one of the best acts of the kind. I think the act should be gobbled all the time possible while in this country.

Irene La Tour and her Educated Dog, “Zaza”

10 min. in 2. 3 shows. This little woman makes a very pleasing appearance. She seems to be quite above the ordinary contortionist and her work shows great skill. The dog is well trained. Each one of her stunts got good applause and at the finish she received a curtain call. This is one of the prettiest little three-a-day sighacts we have had recently.

Charles Prelle’s Dogs

These dogs are made up to represent horses, elephants, etc. A number of the audience sat up and began to take notice. The set is a good one, and a novelty. It did not receive much applause today, but today does not count. 11 min.

Burke’s Dogs

– this act ranges from fair to good until it comes to the finish where the dogs played the sleigh bells, and I think in that they excel any dog act that I have ever seen. Went very strong this afternoon. Took three curtain calls and played a different selection each time. 13 minutes, full stage.

Galetti’s Monkey’s

This act is well known on circuit. Best trained monkey act that we play and especially valuable on account of the comedy introduced, which is good. Laughter and applause hit of the show up to this point. 15 min. red gar. In 3.

Jennie Yeamans

2 shows, 17 minutes in one—got the biggest reception of the afternoon—scored the biggest hit with the exception of the horse act, judging by the amount of applause. She is in good shape, and some of her material is new. We have placed her lower down on the bill in the position where we originally had Thornton, as her act is much stronger than the latter’s.

Volpi’s Animals

Four dogs, four bears and three monkeys. Wormwood is here with the act. I understand to-day was the first time for it here on any stages and from the way the animals worked this afternoon it looks as if the act was put on about a month too soon. Few of the tricks went through, there was absolutely no routine and take it all in allit [sic] dragged from start to finish that it put an awful crimp in our show which up to this time had been going first rate. There are possibilities in the act but they are far from being developed as yet. Act goes on to-night at 7:30 and Wormwood promises much improvement. 21 mins in 4.

Montague’s Birds

This man only has twelve cockatoos and consequently his act is not as showy as Mayon’s. The birds are fairly well trained but the act lacks finish. As we play so few bird act this one was something of a novelty to the audience. Received some applause. Fair act. 14 mins in 3.
