Joe Reichen

First American Appearance. Only has four dogs. Act consists of balancing and I believe one of the best acts of this kind we ever had. While they were not enthusiastic over the work of the dogs, I believe it was greatly appreciated. He, however, received a big lot of applause on the finish. 10 min in two, 2 shows.

Professor M. Dubois & His wise ape, “Adam”

Ape seems almost human. Secured quite a number of laughs by following the action of his master at the dinner table. Finishes with talking the tight rope blind-folded. On account of the small house, they did not enthuse ever this act, but I fully believe it is a little bit of a novelty. Presume under better conditions, would score a big hit. At the price, the act is thoroughly alright for three shows. 11 min. full stage.

Doherty’s Poodles

15 min. F.S. 3 shows. Close in 1. Fifteen French poodles, with a woman trainer. This is a very interesting dog-act, and can be safely recommended as a children’s feature. The little poodles do a good many stunts, but the fact that they are so snowy-white and ribboned out so daintily, is the chief attraction. The close in 1 was especially applauded for the waltzing of the dogs in costume. A very good act for an early place.

Clark’s Educated Dogs and Ponies

This man has some very clever dogs and some pretty ponies. He lacks personality, and looks like thirty cents in a dress suit. The dogs are well trained. His appearance and awkwardness prevent the act from being very good. As it is, it is good for this spot and that is about all. 11 min. F. S.

Jacob’s Dogs

Equilibristic Dogs: 11 min. in 3, close in 1. 2 shows. Carries several little fox-terriers, doing various stunts, after the manner of Joe Reichen. The dogs are wonderfully trained, and it is, from every standpoint, a good act, especially for the children. Close was fairly good. Show good care, and there is a little cute comedy to enliven the act.

Mme. Melich’s Birds

These birds are as well trained as any we have ever seen and would go much better were it not for the fact that Rosa Naynon was here last week and gave a much bigger show, although her birds were not so well trained. Full stage, 12 minutes.

Helene Gerard

Miss Gerard made her second appearance in this house and made good as formerly. She has added a dog to her act and her horses appear to have improved in some of their stunts. I regard this act as the prettiest animal act in vaudeville. 12 min. F.S.

Berzac’s Circus

This act has been critised [sic] in Boston and New York. All that has been said about it is true. The work with the donkey is a scream, while the pony on the revolving table is spectacular, and created all kinds of enthusiasm. Will undoubtedly be a knockout for the week. 15 min. Circus in 5.

Herbert’s Dogs

2 shows, 14 min. full stage. This act has improved somewhat since it was last seen here and went with applause from start to finish. The feat accomplished by one of the dogs of racing around a loop did not make any impression on this afternoon’s audience.

Herbert’s Dogs

Twenty-five dogs – all kinds and sizes. Very good act. The feature of the act is a dog that runs around a six foot loop-the-loop, which is carpeted on the inner surface. Good billing feature. 14 mins. Landscape in 5.
