This is the best trained horse I think I ever saw, at least the most interesting. He is a very beautiful animal, well dressed, and his dancing is the nearest perfect of any animal I ever saw. Introduces various modern dances, each one entirely different from the others. Held the audience in their seats in good shape and made a decided hit. 10 minutes F.S.
Trained bear, 13 minutes full stage special drop. The roller skating is a new departure in acts of this kind, but as for the rest it is nothing but what we have had before. The wrestling business as the finish is of course funny and makes them laugh, even though it has been seen time and again in all other acts of this kind.
60 minutes f.s. Special sets. Without question the most versatile and finished performer we have ever played. Has more scenery than Gertrude Hoffmann, and enough horses and animals to equip a three-ring circus. Everything he did received a big hand, the Japanese juggling, the horseback riding, and the Olympic games being the best liked. A headliner who fully lives up to his advance notices. It will be surprising if Schaffer is not the talk of the town before the week is over.
a very novel and pleasing act. The principal thing in the show that I can depend upon to draw some money. 14 min, full stage, 2 shows.
Assisted by Minnie Jackson and company in a most attractive bareback riding act. The scene opens with three beautiful white horses on the stage; that get a hand at the start. Lowande does some of his well known work including his somersault from one horse to another then Miss Jackson does a riding bit. The two then do bareback riding work in one horse finishing with a two-horse carrying act. About as good an act of the kind as we have had. I am getting them for a special figure but I think the act could be had for MHR or MRR. Considering he is one of the best known bareback riders, it seems to me it would be an act of value. With our show running late it held everybody in and scored a substantial hit. 11 minutes F.S.
Chimpanzee, 15 minutes, full stage. A wonderful trained animal, quite the best yet seen here. His manny [sic] clever tricks brought good applause, while his comedy antics were responsible for a perfect uproar of tumultuous laughter. An emphatic and unprecedented hit.
Monkey, man assistant. Full stage. 17 minutes. This monkey is a wonder. He rides a dog’s back; bicycle; does a ringmaster stunt; eats at a table; smokes a cigar; undresses and goes to bed. He certainly does everything but talk, and with no promptings the assistant. Went very good.
16 min. This was Lipinski’s opening in America. The act is on the order of Barnhold’s and Derkin’s. It could follow either one, however, as Lipinski has twice as many dogs, they are better trained, and scenically it far surpasses either and he introduces novel electrical effects. Received with much favor this afternoon following a late show with the crowd very much excited over the baseball reports. The only adverse criticism, if possible, would be that it is slow in spots. This is due, however, to the fact that it is their first show since they came off the ship and to my mind will be the best act of its kind we have ever played. Too good an act to close a show and will be a feature on any bill no matter how big.
Two men and nine dogs. Special set in full stage. This act is entirely different from all other dogs acts. The dogs drill, march, have an imitation battle, etc. Went fair.
This is quite a novelty. The scene presenting a camp and all the work being of a military nature, finishing with an attack on the enemy, which is a couple of cats, which the dogs vanquish. Went very well and got good applause and laughter.
