Smirl and Kessner

25 min. C.D. in 3. Close in one. An act put in to-day in place of McMahon & Chapelle. The best part of the act is the close in one where the man works with a poodle dog. The body of the act resolves itself into a disjointed tumbling and dancing act by the man and woman.

Burto-Lowand Circus

This is about the same act that these people have always presented here. They consist of two men and a woman, two or three ponies and an equal number of dogs, introducing trapeze work by the woman and some rather clever work by the ponies and dogs, one man acting as ring-master and the other as clown. This is a really good act and pleases everybody, and needs only a good funny man for a clown to make it a big act. 18 minutes; full stage.

Rosa Naynon’s Birds

2 shows, 16 min. full stage. Best act in the varieties, and although it did not receive anything like the amount of applause, its merit deserved, I think the people in the audience fully appreciated it. It certainly must appeal to the nice class of people.

Macart’s Dogs and Monkeys

16 minutes. Full stage. While the animals are not doing any wonderful tricks, still they work with such vim and good nature that the act more than pleases and is talked about.

Winscherman’s Bears

YEE. They worked pretty well this afternoon, although there were times when they were quite slow. The monkeys is the best features of the act I think. I don’t consider them nearly as good as Batty’s. I have just learned that the clownbear died here last night, and naturally they were obliged to work outside of their usual routine of tricks which is always disastrous to the animal act, at that however, the act can be called a good one. 19 minutes, full stage.

Peter

38 minutes. Full stage. This is unquestionably the most wonderful Champanzee [sic] in the world and exhibits almost human intelligence and understanding. He is on big hit if there ever was one in vaudeville.

Howard’s Ponies Dogs and Monkeys

19 minutes, full stage. A good, well-trained lot of animals. Don’t have many tricks, but what they do is done well. On the whole it is a fairly good act, but is spoiled by the lack of enthusiasm and indifference of Howard.

Ad. Carlisle’s Dogtown Pantomime

16 min. F.S. Act opens very like Gillette’s canine pantomime with little house and saloon and character including the burlesque, the flirt, and the bum. This gets considerable applause and afterward Carlisle appears and calls out the pony which really is a very intelligent animal. Gets good applause for each one of his feats in mathematics and answering questions. The act closed well. This is a good feature for the children, especially for a holiday week.

Madame Chester and Her Statue Dog

Quite a pretty little posing act, each picture of which gained some applause, and the finish of the act being fairly strong. 8 minutes, special in 5.

Silbon’s Novelty Circus

One of the best animal acts we have played. Good comedy, cleverest of cats, and such novelty throughout. Full stage.
