7 minutes f.s. Always the best of the comedy bar acts, this troupe came back with a novelty in the way of a new stage setting, and went bigger than ever.
7 min. F.S. Certainly a lively opener, keeping the audience in roars all through their rough comedy and fine acrobatics. Could hold any spot where a swift comedy bar of this kind is needed.
7 Mins.; Full.
Scamp and Scamp are offering a good old fashioned horizontal bar act of the type that made vaudeville audiences laugh 25 years ago and which still has enough of the elemental comedy to make ’em laugh today. There are all the old tricks of sliding down the polos, swinging around them, falling over the stays by the comedian, and a new two foot hook onto the pole. The straight works fast and does the usual swings and flying, also the standing jump bar to bar. The act in the closing spot on the roof held them in.
15 Mint. Four
Two men, straight and comedy in’ dress suits to conform to their characterizations. The comedian bears the brunt of the labors with his falls and panto work. The straight does several, tumbles effectively. The finish was’ intended for a Melrose fall from a height of four tables. One of them gave way and the turn concluded, prematurely through the mishap which resulted in- a nasty spill for the comedian. The duo were evidently nervous and did not take great pains in setting the tables in their grooves properly as it was evident from the boxes and first rows that the offending table was out of alignment. The turn is excellent pop house material worthy of a spot. They were No. 3 on the roof.
Three male horizontal bar performers, surround their work with the old style continental “comedy eccentriques” make-ups — the “fat man slipping through his clothes, the cartridge slap-stick, etc.
9 Mine.; Full Stage.
Eccentric comedy juggler, with girl assistant He does tumbling, juggling, comedy talk, plays the piano, juggles three oranges standing: on his head, tumbles while juggling, tears paper while chin balancing, acrobatic rope jumping, etc. And the girl changes her costume. Some mechanical props and comedy sayings on the back of a series of vests. Regulation opening turn, neither very good nor the reverse. Suitable three-a-day opener.
The comedy is not sufficient to hold the attention of an American audience. The acrobatic work is but mediocre, little in the way of novelty being displayed, the woman doing tumbling early in the turn that shows some ability. Her efforts on the stage are limited, due to the necessity of keeping her be-‘ hind the drop for the water business.
Two men, one straight and the other in comedy make-up, in a regulation acrobatic turn. Good ground tumblers, both of them, with the usual comedy Interpolated. The comic does a fall from a chair which is placed atop four tables. Usual preliminary swaying for laughs. The four high fall which is used for the finish is neatly executed. Good openers or closers for the pop houses.
7 min. in one. Well known comedy acrobatic act, using table and mat and appear in grotesque costume. The regulation acrobatic stunts. Some applause throughout and closed well.
(NOTE) On account of illness, this act felt that they could not do themselves justice this week, and at their own request closed after the matinee. This was not at all because their work was not satisfactory, but simply because one of the men is very much under the weather, and as soon as he recovers, they will get another week booked here.
Mr. Bell is a very good acrobat and Miss Caron helps to grace the stage. Some comedy and makes as all right opening number. F.S.
