Madge Maitland

Singing comedienne. This lady started in rather quietly and I was afraid for a time that she was not going to do very well; the last half of her act picked up, however, and she closed in good style, although not the big hit she has been credited in other cities. 14 min in one.

Ethel Barrymore & Co.

There is no need to dwell upon Miss Barrymore’s sketch or her ability. I just what [sic] to mention that we have the biggest advance sale ever in the history of vaudeville in Providence and thousands of people are clamoring for seats, who will not be able to get them. With Miss Tanguay – the opposition up the street – there were on Saturday and this morning plenty of seats to be had and it didn’t look as if she was going to do any business to talk about, in spite of tremendous billing. Our advertising is a little more than ordinary. My only fear is that we will turn away so many people that in their desire to go somewhere, and nothing else of consequence in town, we are going to help Miss Tanguay’s business, Miss Barrymore’s act was received most cordially. 27 min. F.S. At 7 o’clock tonight there were plenty of seats available in all parts of the house for the Tanguay show tonight – we are sold out for the week.

Felix & Caire

Their old act, which is practically the same as they have been doing for a number of years, containing one or two new imitations. In the old days when they were looked upon as children, and Felix was particularly small, the act had value; now that they have grown to young men and young woman, their work is not so effective; besides which, Felix has a particularly offensive personality. The first part of the act dragged and they closed only fairly well. 15. Open F.S. Close about 3 min in one.

Robt. Emmett Keane

A very clean-cut classy young fellow, who tells a number of stories in English dialect and sings a couple of songs of a similar nature, all wall rendered and well received. He concludes with a recitation that sent him off to a good hand. A far better act than I had been led to expect.  I am inclined to believe he will do much better in other cities than New York. Probably he hasn’t got quite enough ginger for the New York audiences. 15 min in one.

Lena Pantzer

While it was rather daring to put Miss Pantzer down to close the show, she held the spot quite satisfactorily. While not a big hit, she got considerable applause and where necessary, she can maintain this position. She opens with a spade dance, closing with some clever bounding wire work; different from the usual run of wire acts and for an earlier spot, O.K. 8 min F.S.

Ota Gygi

I don’t think there is any question but what this man is the best violinist that vaudeville has ever had; in fact I should be rather surprised if in a few years, he is not ranked among the great soloists of the world. He made a most decided hit this afternoon, the audience being very loath to allow him to leave the stage. 15 min. in one.

Milton & Dolly Nobles

In their new sketch, “Auto Suggestion.” This is a splendid vehicle; contains many bright lines and funny situations and for the money paid, it is thoroughly all right as it stands, but it is too bad that the two more clever people didn’t hold of this sketch for it might have been made a real headline act. 24 min. F.S.

Britt Wood

Young boy, rube comedian, harmonica player and eccentric dancer. Under ordinary circumstances, I wouldn’t dream of putting this young fellow down here, but he seems to be one [sic] the best act from the audience’s standpoint, that we have on the bill and I think he is the logical person to put in this spot. 11 min in one.

Al & Fannie Steadman

These people were on in No. 3 spot at the first performance, but am moving them up here in order to get a better running of the show. They don’t do very well, although they didn’t really fall down. The opinion that I formed of them on their last visit remains; that it is a very uncouth act with little merit. After Miss Steadman had made her funny faces three or four times, they become tiresome. A fair No. 2 act, 16 min in one.

The Farber Sisters

This act was a distinct surprise, although I had been told it was good, I had no idea it would pan out quite as strongly as it did. One of the girls is an exceptionally good comedienne. The audience was most insistent with encores and I believe they could be there yet. 14 min in one.
