He opened with a bit on "warring rulers", Emperor Franz Josef and the Kaiser. He had some trouble with the orchestra, which couldn't catch the spirit of the Sousa music meant to accompany him.
The finishing battle scene had the entire audience clapping along to the end. His opening bit was also very well-liked.
His close was very strong.
