While he may not be the greatest monologist of his day, he is there on looks.
His Sunday night performance was deemed informal, perhaps because he is a blackface entertainer.
He really knows how to put over a "coon" song. He talks on marriage and other things, and sings three songs. His best song was "Now That We Thoroughly Understand Each Other, Mr. Johnson, Good Night." He also did well with his opening, "Mammy's Chile."
