The audience didn't seem to get that the ending with the "boot bit" was a joke. "Felt sorry for Moore, and several audibly whispered he should have had sense enough to get off the stage and pull the boot on before continuing".
It fell "just short of landing". It is well-established, but the ending is very poorly constructed.
