This sketch adapted from the work of Charles Dickens entitled “The Cricket on the Hearth” was twenty-five minutes long on the full stage.
The plot follows the original Dickens work, with the characters of Caleb Plummer (played by Thomas Jefferson) the toy-maker and Tackleton (played by Walter Colligan) included.
Jefferson gets some laughs by way of direct comedic lines, but his supporting company lets him down. Walter Colligan played Tackleton with such lifelessness that he did not seem human. The piece should also be re-written to include some sort of climax. The sketch will have to rely on Jefferson's name to get any future bookings.
